Wine Tasting on Board. Enjoy an afternoon learning and savouring classic North Greece wines while cruising along Thessaloniki’s coastline aboard a sailboat. Our wine expert will introduce you to his favourite North Greece wines (white wine, rosé, red wine and also cava). During the wine tasting you will learn about the history of the region as well as general differences between standard Greek wines and those produced from rare heirloom grapes. You will understand how these characteristics serve to create a region of world-class wines to appreciate. All of that combined with some bites and snacks, and of course, the sea breeze and views of Thessaloniki. Those who wish to have a dip in the water may do so!

You’ve probably heard it many times – wine tastes better when it is produced. This is true in the case of Greece, where the simple cuisine, which doesn’t require complicated maneuvers or elaborate preparation, allows the flavors of wine to shine throughout.

Wine in Ancient Greece

Traces of the vine and wine have been lost in the depths of prehistoric times. Homer characterizes many areas with patches that testify to the tradition of vinification, while in the 9th century of the Iliad Nestor reminds Agamemnon that their cellars are full of wine that was transported daily from Thrace to the Achaean ships crossing the sea. In Crete, in the 17th century BC, the vineyard, which the palm traders brought, was systematically cultivated, while Archana was the oldest wine press in the world.

The ancient Greeks consider wine to be an integral part of their lives, which is why they worship Dionysus, the god of wine, feast and theater. This neighbor’s son, with his contradictions and outbursts, we will see in many illustrations in a multitude of vessels holding in one hand a bunch of grapes and in the other a bottle of wine, while around him in a state of ecstasy have performed Satir, Silen and Stables.
